Candidatos demócratas reaccionan ante la retirada de Williams

La abarrotada carrera por el puesto de Fiscal de Distrito acaba de hacerse más sencilla con el reciente anuncio de Seth Williams.

Un nuevo candidato, Larry Krasner, se subió a escena tras trabajar como abogado criminalista en la ciudad. Ha compartido que aprecia la retirada de Williams pero declaró que no tendrá nada que ver en su propia candidatura.

DA Candidates react to Seth Williams' withdrawal

Seth Williams announced today that he will not be running for Philadelphia District Attorney. 

Williams was first elected in 2009 and current runner's express it was the excitement of having the first black district attorney that made the election an easy win for Williams. And though his star quickly rose, his tenure as DA has been rife with scandal and investigation.

Though his most notable scandal has been the recent record fine in the amount of $62,000, Williams has also ben under federal investigation by the FBI in 2015 and received other pushback.

Two marches on Tuesday in Philadelphia have spoken to the concept of what it means to really have a force of resistance against a political system.

A group numbering close to the hundreds, a large collection of Comcast employees in Philadelphia walked out of the Comcast Center midday on Thursday to protest President Trump's recent executive order barring refugees and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations.

Mientras el Presidente Trump se dirigía a los Republicanos que asistieron al retiro del Gran Viejo Partido (GOP por sus siglas en inglés) en Filadelfia, varios miles de manifestantes tomaron las calles para expresar su descontento.

Mientras el presidente se enfocaba en tocar temas familiares a los de su campaña, incluyendo el ayudar a los trabajadores Americanos, acabar con la inmigración ilegal y reconstruir la fuerza armada nacional, los manifestantes estaban afuera protestando por todo: desde los derechos migratorios hasta los reproductivos.

Philadelphia DA was recently fine $62,000 for ethicfs violations and not reporting five sources of income and 89 gifts on city financial statements over six years. This is the first time that Williams has not only admitted to the allegations but also had public record solidifying the claims against him. With 5 counter bids for his seat in May, the scandal may not aid his campaign in the Spring. Richard Negrin, one of the headlining candidates against Williams, has expressed very solid concerns in regards to the Williams case.

Durante el fin de semana, dos nuevos competidores han anunciado que se postularían para la oficina del Fiscal de Distrito.

Los contrincantes son Beth Grossman y Michael Untermeyer, ambos fueron antiguos Fiscales en la oficina y desde entonces han preferido llevar negocios privados dentro de la ciudad.

Michael Untermeyer, quien anteriormente compitió contra Seth Williams en el 2009 como Republicano, ha estado trabajando en el sector de bienes raíces previo al anuncio de su candidatura.

Seth Williams has more competition

Over the weekend, two new contenders for the office of district attorney announced they were running this week.

The contenders, Beth Grossman and Michael Untermeyer, both were former district attorneys to the office and have since gone on to run private businesses of their own within the city.

Michael Untermeyer, who formerly ran against Seth Williams in 2009 as a republican, has been working in the business and real estate sector prior to his announcement to run.

Carrier, an air conditioning manufacturer from Indiana, was planning to outsource production to Mexico to save in labour costs, but Donald Trump has decided to show off his protectionist magic wand and save at least about a thousand jobs. Carrier was already used as an icon of the US industrial crisis during Trumps campaign. The president Elect also put Carrier as an example of the collateral damages of free trade agreements with Mexico and Canada (NAFTA).
